Tasty teatime treats to raise money for Pink Rose Appeal

Sumptuous sandwiches, calorific cakes and a glass of pink fizz are just some of the tasty treats that will be on offer at a special fundraising tea in aid of the 2012 Pink Rose Appeal for breast cancer research and treatment. The event takes place on Thursday 4th October at 3:30pm at the DoubleTree by Hilton, Cambridge.

The event, which is being organised by the Friends of Addenbrooke’s,  is the perfect excuse to catch up with friends, family and colleagues, and indulge in a bit of guilt-free gluttony.  Attendees, who are encouraged to wear pink, can enjoy themselves knowing that they are helping to raise much-needed funds for the Cambridge Breast Unit and the adjacent Cambridge Breast Cancer Research Unit at Addenbrooke’s – an integrated centre of excellence that conducts world-class research and offers real hope and life saving treatment to local women battling breast cancer.

The Pink Rose Appeal is an annual fundraising campaign organised by ACT – the charity for Addenbrooke’s and the Rosie hospitals. Coinciding with Breast Cancer Awareness month in October, supporters of the Pink Rose Appeal host coffee mornings, office lunches, dinner parties, BBQs and picnics, asking their guests to pay their way or make a donation on the day.

All money raised through the Pink Rose Appeal helps pay for cutting edge research and enables Addenbrooke’s to purchase the very latest clinical and surgical equipment – investments that improve patient care and translate into better outcomes for women fighting breast cancer.

Commenting, Jane Small, Chairman of the Friends of Addenbrooke’s, said: “We staged our first Pink Rose tea at the DoubleTree last year and it was enormously successful with more than fifty people joining us for a quintessentially English afternoon. If you know someone affected by breast cancer and want to support the Pink Rose Appeal – but perhaps don't have time to organise your own fundraising party – this is the perfect way to get involved. Gather some friends together, book your tickets, find something pink to wear and turn up on the day to tuck into some tasty treats – it doesn’t get much easier than that.”

Tickets for the Pink Rose afternoon tea cost £15 per person with all proceeds from the event going to the Pink Rose Appeal. The event starts at 3:30pm and finishes at 5:30pm. Event supporters include the DoubleTree by Hilton, which is kindly offering the ‘inspired’ pink afternoon tea in the Riverside Brasserie; The Sanctuary Spa, which is providing mini manicures and hand / feet massages; plus a range of other local companies, including the Hill Partnership, which have donated raffle prizes and sponsored refreshments.

Gayle Martin, Sales and Marketing Manager, at the DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel, said: “We were privileged to help the Friends of Addenbrooke’s organise their very first Pink Rose Appeal tea party last year. When they approached us about hosting the event again, we leapt at the chance. This is a fantastic initiative, for a very worthwhile cause, that directly benefits real women – right here in Cambridge. What more motivation did we need to get involved? We wish the Friends group all the very best for a sell out charity event.”
