At the event in Rome, Italy, Ickleton-based Team Consulting will be co-chairing the workshop with Cambridge Consultants and SHL Connect.
The workshop’s co-chairs will be Georg Roessling from PDA Europe, Jonathan Oakley, a Senior Consultant and member of Team’s Electronics and Software group, and Iain Simpson, Associate Director of Cambridge Consultants’ Global Medical Technology Division.
The pre-conference workshop aims to “explore and discuss how the application of smart and connected devices and associated digital services can improve disease management through better use of existing medication as well as support the development of new treatments.”
Jonathan Oakley, who will be introducing and providing an overview of the themes to be discussed throughout the day, shares his thoughts on connected medical devices, stating:
“Adding electronics is only the beginning of making a device ‘smart’. When the opportunity to participate in the development of a smart device arises, there are a number of factors to consider over and above the technological or engineering feasibility, such as: ‘how can the smartness benefit the individual?’, ‘how can it benefit the wider community?’ and ‘how can this be achieved within the commercial constraints of the development?'”
On the day, topics will include patient experience, the interface between the patient and device, new technologies and the process of getting to market.
The themes will be explored by individuals from leading commercial and academic organisations, including Merck Serono, Genentech, Flextronics, Quintiles, SHL Connect and The Sylvia Lawry Centre for Multiple Sclerosis Research at the Technical University of Munich.
This event will precede PDA Europe’s 9th Workshop on Monoclonal Antibodies, titled ‘Ensuring mAbs’ Quality – Current Considerations for Control Strategy Design’. Over the two days, sessions will examine the current state-of-the art equipment for process development of monoclonal antibodies and explore technologies that will influence new CM&C (Chemistry, Manufacturing & Controls) approaches.
Jonathan Oakley and Andy Fry will be representing Team Consulting in Rome for the pre-conference workshop.
