The Charity is on the lookout for people, companies and groups who would like to help with its brand new Christmas tree recycling scheme. Approximately 50 volunteers are needed to help the initiative in its inaugural year.
The project will involve tasks from promoting the collection with leafleting between 27 December and 6 January, to driving across Cambridge collecting Christmas tree cast offs as part of a ‘treasure hunt for trees’ on the weekend of 8, 9 and 10 January 2016. Additionally the Charity hopes to find generous Cambridgeshire businesses or organisations who will donate their vans, lorries or low- loaders (preferably with drivers!) for the collection weekend. They are also hoping to source partners to provide food and drink, to keep the army of ravenous Christmas tree helpers fuelled over the collection weekend.
The Christmas tree recycling scheme is a fantastically simple idea. Anyone who lives in postcode areas CB1, CB2, CB3, CB4 and CB5 and doesn’t want the hassle of getting rid of their tree, can register online to have their tree collected by one of the Arthur Rank Hospice Charity’s little helpers. For a small donation, the Charity’s voluntary tree collection team will collect the trees after 12th night and take them to Cambridge City Council’s waste management depot to be composted.
Chloe Christine-Wallis, Community Fundraiser at the Arthur Rank Hospice Charity, adds: “We’re really excited to bring this new fundraising initiative to Cambridge but we need your help! The great thing about volunteering for this scheme is that it’s a limited amount of time that we need your help for: it would work really well for companies who have volunteering days available to donate to charity. It will be a lot of fun too of course and we will be thanking helpers via our digital media platforms, so it’s a great way to build really fun and positive engagement between colleagues, companies and your customers. Become part of our fabulous team and help raise money for your local hospice!”
If you would like to volunteer or would be interested in offering sponsorship in some way please email chloe.christine-wallis@arhc.org.uk or call 01223 723115.
You can also register for your Christmas tree to be collected ahead of the rush at www.arhc.org.uk/treerecycling (please note we are only able to collect from CB1, CB2, CB3, CB4 and CB5 postcodes). All funds raised will go towards the Charity’s new £10.5m hospice currently under construction at Shelford Bottom.
