At last night’s IET Innovation Awards at The Brewery in central London, Team Consulting, along with client OrganOx Ltd, won three awards for the metra™ normothermic liver perfusion system, which can keep a human liver alive for up to 24 hours during transplantation. The product was recognised in three categories: Healthcare Technologies, Emerging Technology Design and Intelligent systems.
“There are a lot of very happy engineers and designers in Cambridge and Oxford this morning,” said Neil Cooper, Head of Marketing at Team. “To win in all three of the categories we were entered for was simply mind blowing. It means so much to all the employees of Team and OrganOx who worked so hard to bring this ground-breaking product out of the lab and into human trials.”
Dr. Les Russell, CEO at OrganOx adds: “Our vision at OrganOx has been to develop technology that can improve the supply and quality of organs for transplantation and to make untransplantable livers transplantable. Working with the folks at Team helped us realise this vision and create a truly amazing medical device, the metra which has already helped to transform the lives of transplanted patients. We are absolutely delighted that our joint achievements have been recognised by our peers and the eminent panels of judges. To have won just one award would have been stunning but to win in 3 categories covering different aspects of design and engineering is truly outstanding and demonstrates what an amazing product the metra is. My warmest thanks to everyone who has worked on this project and to all our supporters.”
Last night’s success follows Sebastien Cuvelier Mussalian’s double at the British Engineering Excellence Awards (Design Engineer of the Year and the overall Grand Prix) last month and the double Red Dot Award win earlier this year.
