Thousands raised for East Anglian Air Ambulance

HCR Hewitsons rasied a huge £42,565 for the East Anglian Air Ambulance to help fund specialised CPR training in East Anglia.

Six teams across the firm were among 1,200 runners taking part in the Chariots of Fire relay race. The race is organised by the HCR Hewitsons Charitable Trust, the charity founded and supported by HCR Hewitsons. In its 29 year history the trust has raised over £1.48m for charity.

The Chariots of Fire relay race in Cambridge, organised by the HCR Hewitsons Charitable Trust, raised £42,565 for East Anglian Air Ambulance (EAAA) to help fund specialised CPR training in the region.

Six teams from the recently merged law firm were among the 1,200 runners passing the baton in the 1.7-mile course starting and ending at Queen’s College. The winning team were from GIULIO who finished in 52 minutes, with a close second by Michael Scott Associates Ltd coming in 30 seconds later.

This year the race was started by former Newmarket FC player, Shaun Whiter, who was saved by EAAA after both of his legs were amputated following a hit-and-run crash.

Chariots of Fire is the region’s longest running charitable relay race and is organised by HCR Hewitsons Charitable Trust, the charity established and supported by HCR Hewitsons. It has raised over £1.48m for charity in its 29-year history.

Charles Hewitson, HCR Hewitsons, and race director, said: “It was a fantastic day with an impressive turnout of runners, and we are so proud of the funds raised which will go towards EAAA’s life-saving work. The race has been taking place since 1992 and we were very disappointed to have to cancel last year, so to dust off our trainers and get back to normality was just wonderful. We look forward to gathering together even more teams to raise money for a great cause next year.”

Inger Anson, head of HCR Hewitsons’ Cambridge office, said: “It was a fantastic event for all of us – it was great to see so many people enjoying the city and raising money for an excellent cause.”
