The Board of Governors determines the educational character of Anglia Ruskin as well as setting the university’s strategic direction. Other responsibilities include financial, property and staffing issues.
Margaret Wilson is an educational professional with over 30 years’ experience of working in, and leading, a wide range of schools. Margaret is a National Leader of Education and Principal of the highly successful King John School in Benfleet, which is the sponsor of a new academy and is the lead partner in a National Challenge Trust school.
Margaret has been an adviser to the academies division of the Department of Education and is also a non-executive director on the Board of Pearson Education Ltd.
Barbara James is founder and CEO of the first independent pan-African private equity Fund of Funds, Henshaw Capital Partners. Barbara served on the Nigerian Federal Government Committee on Information Technology Incubation Centre Development in 2011/2012 and since 2011 has served on the Nigerian Federal Ministry of Trade and Investment Committee on Small and Medium Enterprise Development.
Barbara helped to establish the African Venture Capital Association (AVCA) and has been instrumental in the development of other innovative venture capital solutions in Africa including the African Diaspora SME Fund and an African Technical Assistance Fund.
In 2007, she advised the Kenyan, Tanzanian and Ugandan Governments on the setting up of an SME venture capital fund, a technical assistance facility and an enabling regulatory environment for venture capital in East Africa, and she sits on the Board of East Africa Capital Partners.
Helen Meixner CMG worked for the British Council in a variety of senior roles, before retiring as Regional Director for South East Europe and Director of Romania, based in Bucharest.
Helen is currently a member of the governing body of Sir John Cass and Redcoat Secondary School in Tower Hamlets, and is a trustee of the Sir John Cass Foundation. She also served for 10 years both on the governing body of Book Aid International (for the last two years as Chair) and as a Justice of the Peace. Helen was awarded a CMG in 2001 for services to overseas cultural relations.
