Improving transport, providing more affordable housing and supporting economic growth were just some of the topics discussed.
Cllr Lewis Herbert, Leader of Cambridge City Council, said: “Cambridge, Oxford and Norwich have plenty in common and it makes sense for us to discuss some of the big issues facing our cities so that we can learn from each other.
“We all work for cities that have high profile universities providing a highly skilled workforce that play a key role in bolstering the local economy.
“We also all face challenges around the provision of affordable housing, developing the local and regional economy and tackling transport issues.
“Much needed infrastructure projects to support growth will also impact on each city and we are each seeking to forge closer links with business.
“The potential East-West rail link was one of the topics that we all have a keen interest in and one on which we may be able to work together in future.
“We will meet again to share detail on those local initiatives that work best for us and to identify priorities for greater devolution from Whitehall to cities like ours so that we can both address the varied needs of our communities and increase our contributions to UK growth.”
