TWI Certification approves high quality welder training at Tyne Metropolitan College

TWI Certification Limited, a wholly owned subsidiary of TWI Ltd, has delivered certification to Tyne Metropolitan College (TyneMet), confirming their excellent competence and capability in welder training.

The college gained the prestigious Certification Scheme for Welder Training Organisations (CSWTO) certification, which affirms that TyneMet’s welder training is provided to the highest standards required by industry.

The CSWTO certification is awarded to centres that deliver welder training, with the quality mark confirming that the best in facilities, equipment, teaching materials and resources are on offer. TyneMet’s training staff are also certified to high standards, having achieved CSWIP (Certification Scheme for Personnel) Welding Instructor and CSWIP Welding Examiner status.

Speaking on the certification, Ian Hogarth, Principal Verification Engineer of TWI Certification Limited said, ‘It’s really encouraging for industry to see TyneMet College investing both time and money in new welder training facilities, ensuring that its welding apprentices are being given the greatest opportunities to maximise their skills.’

The college was expanded in August 2017 following a merger between Tyne Metropolitan College and South Tyneside College. Part of the new Tyne Coast College, TyneMet is now an official examination venue for welder assessments.

TyneMet’s engineering team provides welder training and assessment to both established staff and apprentices from a range of the region’s leading employers in the engineering, manufacturing and construction sectors.

Neil Dorward, Deputy Head of Engineering at TyneMet, said, ‘Our engineering team have always delivered only the highest standards of training, and our facilities here are second to none. This certification officially recognises the excellent services we provide to local industry and welding professionals. We’re obviously delighted to achieve such a high accolade, and our fantastic team will continue to go above and beyond to deliver this training to the rigorous standards that our industrial clients expect.’

The North East construction and manufacturing community has also welcomed the certification, with David Bavaird, Chair of the North Tyneside Business Forum, saying, ‘This is great news for our construction and engineering industries. It means our burgeoning construction and engineering sectors can tap into welders trained to the very highest standards, which of course is absolutely crucial in these sectors where safety and accuracy is absolutely paramount. I’m especially proud that we have such a centre of excellence in North Tyneside, adding even more to what this borough can offer to industry and business.’
