ISO 14001 is implemented in over 160 countries and is designed to provide organisations with a standard model for protecting the environment by offering a systematic approach for their activities, processes, products and services. TWI has been committed to this standard for over a decade, having held approval since 2005, and has now joined the ranks of companies to achieve transition to the new standard - ISO 14001:2015.
The new standard was introduced in September 2015, with organisations being given until October 2018 to make the transition from the previous version of the standard.
TWI’s adherence to the ISO standard was assessed by Lloyds Register Quality Assurance (LRQA), and TWI is one of the first 18% of LRQA’s clients to successfully transition to ISO 14001:2015. The new standard has a number of changes when compared to the 2004 version including context, leadership, risk-based thinking, communication, life-cycle thinking, improvement, terminology, documentation and clarity.
LRQA granted approval for TWI’s head office at Granta Park, Cambridge, as well as for TWI’s Technology and Training Centre in Middlesbrough, and TWI’s Technology Centres in Port Talbot and Rotherham. In addition, approval was given to TWI affiliates The Test House, Plant Integrity Ltd, and the Granta Centre in Cambridge, the latter specifically for the ‘provision of event management and hospitality services for private and corporate hire.’
By adhering to the requirements set down by ISO 14001:2015, TWI will continue to protect the environment and respond to changing environmental conditions, all in line with the business-related socio-economic needs of the company.
