Nearly 300 people visited Addenbrooke’s Hospital last Saturday (27 Oct) to learn more about the work of Allied Healthcare Professionals and the benefits of a career in the field.
One in every three members of staff in the NHS is an Allied Health Professional and their roles include speech and language therapists, occupational therapists, physiotherapists, therapeutic radiographers, dietitians, diagnostic radiographers, operating department practitioners, music therapists orthoptics, prosthetists and orthotists.
Addenbrooke’s welcomed students, university graduates, newly qualified professionals and experienced or return to practice AHPs for the event, that was the first of its kind.
There were opportunities to join campus tours, hear career talks and presentations, learn about potential vacancies, and talk in person to some of the Trust’s AHPs.
Visitors found the event useful with comments including: ‘Gave me a better idea of what I want to do in the future’; ‘Very passionate staff who inspired us’; ‘Given me an idea of what I want to do as a career’; ‘Inspiring to meet people who are so passionate about their work’ and ‘It made me aware of many career options’.
Director of workforce David Wherrett said: “We would like to thank everyone who came along and took an interest in the incredibly valuable work done by our Allied Health Professionals. I would also like to thank all these staff who made it possible.”
