Run by Anglia Ruskin’s Centre for Enterprise Development and Research (CEDAR), the Enterprise Fellowship Scheme is now in its third year and by the end of 2013 will have given away over £100,000 to help local people get their ideas off the ground.
The scheme is open to anyone in Cambridgeshire with a great idea that they want to turn into a sustainable business, and CEDAR is currently working with eight previous winners of the competition. These include a company producing innovative software for photographers, a new health product, an online social media app, and a foot support for people with mobility problems.
In addition to a share of £35,000, the winners will receive mentoring support and advice from successful local entrepreneurs and academics; access to the Start-up Lab, Anglia Ruskin’s business incubation centre; legal support; and membership of the CEDAR Enterprise Fellowship network.
This year’s judging panel includes Dr Walter Herriot OBE, Director of the CEDAR Entrepreneur in Residence network; Peter Taylor, Managing Director of TTP Group plc; Natalie Haywood, founder of This is Leaf; Mark Layton, Chairman and owner of Incomes Data Services; Julie Horne, business leader, consultant and coach; Lianne Miller, Deputy Director of CEDAR; and Roger Jeynes, Chairman of ZOO Technology and Professor of International Management Practice.
Lester Lloyd-Reason, Professor of International Enterprise Strategy at Anglia Ruskin and Director of CEDAR (pictured), said: “Cambridgeshire is a hotbed of entrepreneurship and there are bound to be hundreds of people who have great business ideas but need support to take their ideas to the next level.
“We have received some incredibly strong entries over the last couple of years, and these businesses are making great strides thanks to the guidance of academics and entrepreneurs connected to Anglia Ruskin.
“We expect this year’s entries to be equally strong and it is possible that one product or concept could blow the judges away and receive the full £35,000, although it is more likely we would look to split the money, and support, between two or three ideas.”
To enter, applicants must submit an A4 page about themselves and another about their idea by midnight on Friday, 2 August. These should be sent by email to dale.coss@anglia.ac.uk

Entrepreneurs from across Cambridgeshire are being encouraged to shout about their ideas – and win a share of £35,000 of funding – as part of Anglia Ruskin University’s Enterprise Fellowship Scheme.
