The first lane of the eastbound dual carriageway near Linton will be hatched off and a new left turn will be created to enable vehicles to turn left safely into Dalehead Foods, which will also give greater visibility to vehicles leaving the site.
Work will soon follow on upgrading the traffic signals at Linton Village College to increase capacity, installing additional cycle lockers and storage at Babraham Park and Ride, and creating an eastbound bus lane approaching Linton.
It marks the beginning of work on phase one of the Cambridge South East Transport Scheme and a £14m package to improve road safety, bus priority and to upgrade walking and cycling routes along the A1307 by the end of 2020.
A mass rapid transport route from the A11 to the Cambridge Biomedical Campus that could transition into the Cambridge Autonomous Metro being developed by the Mayor and Combined Authority is proposed for phase two.
All 17 of the proposed early improvements received public backing in a public consultation held earlier this year and the adopted off-road mass rapid transport option received the most support for future development of the project.
