World renowned geneticist to deliver Coronavirus lecture in aid of children’s brain tumour charity

Dr Peter Forster, a world-renowned geneticist and former Fellow of Murray Edwards College, is to deliver a lecture on the genomics of coronavirus and its origins to help raise money for a children’s brain tumour charity.

Dr Forster will summarise his work on human origins before using the same methodology to address the question of when and where the current coronavirus arose, developed into new variants, and spread.

Dr Forster is a former Fellow of Murray Edwards College and of the McDonald Institute for Archaeological Research (Archaeogenetics) at the University of Cambridge, a member of the German National Academy of Sciences and formed the first western research group to publish in early 2020 on the origins of the coronavirus pandemic. He has featured in several television documentaries on human evolution on the BBC, PBS and other channels.

Whilst this is a free event, there is a suggested donation of £15 which will go directly to Tom’s Trust to help children with brain tumours and their families.

Dr Forster said:  “As a Cambridge geneticist, I am honoured to be lecturing to you here at Murray Edwards College. I hope it will be an informative session for everyone. I am also thrilled that I can help a local charity by asking for donations to Tom’s Trust. The work the charity does for children with brain tumours and their families is unique and I am glad to support the charity in this way.”

Please note the lecture starts at 6:30pm, so we recommend you arrive early.

Tea, coffee, and cake will be provided after the lecture.

Parking is available onsite.
