Mitsubishi Electric selects RealVNC to deliver phone-centric infotainment

Mitsubishi Electric, one of the largest global Tier 1 suppliers to the automotive industry, has selected RealVNC to provide seamless mobile-to-vehicle integration for its latest range of in-car information and entertainment systems. Mitsubishi Electric supports many of the world’s largest auto OEMs and has global production contracts for its new phone-centric infotainment systems from multiple car manufacturers.

VNC® Automotive is a MirrorLink Certified™ product that supports the widest range of mobile devices from the latest smartphones to legacy handsets. The screen of the mobile device is replicated on the head unit, giving access to mobile content such as navigation, music libraries and internet radio, simply and safely controlled from the infotainment system touch screen, vehicle bezel keys, steering wheel switches and by voice command. VNC Automotive will even stream content such as maps and music to the driver, while simultaneously showing rear seat entertainment such as videos and games to passengers.

VNC Automotive has been MirrorLink Certified by the international Car Connectivity Consortium (CCC) to ensure drivers and passengers enjoy a safe and seamless smartphone experience in their vehicles. In-car connections can be via Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and USB, covering Symbian, Windows Mobile, Blackberry and Android devices along with Apple’s iPod Out that allows an iPhone or iPod Touch to display the iPod video interface on the head unit screen.

“At Mitsubishi Electric our goal is always to harness the latest technologies to define the benchmarks for real-time information and in-vehicle entertainment,” said Naoki Shimizu, Manager, Software Design for Overseas OEMs at Mitsubishi Electric. “With smartphones becoming the single source for infotainment applications and content wherever you are, VNC Automotive gives us a mature and production-ready, MirrorLink Certified solution to meet the needs of our global OEMs and their demanding customer experience metrics.”

“The decision by Mitsubishi Electric to select RealVNC for its new generation of phone-centric infotainment systems is a major endorsement of our VNC Automotive solution and we are delighted to have the opportunity to work with its world-leading engineering teams,” said Tom Blackie, Vice President Mobile of RealVNC. “Many of the world’s largest automotive manufacturers, Tier 1 suppliers and mobile phone vendors are choosing our advanced VNC technology to deliver commercial MirrorLink Certified production programs.”
