Network Design animates the Xaar technology story at iconic exhibition

Creative work by leading Cambridge marketing communications agency Network Design is on display at the prestigious 'Make it in Great Britain’ exhibition currently running at the Science Museum in London.

Network Design is behind the innovative animations being used to demonstrate the sophisticated technology in printheads made by Cambridge industrial inkjet manufacturer Xaar, which form part of a successful Augmented Reality (AR) campaign the agency developed for Xaar.

Xaar wanted to use AR to demonstrate its innovative technology close up and in 3D. Earlier this year, Network Design took up the challenge and delivered the ambitious project within budget and on a tight 10-week deadline.

The Network Design project team, headed up by Lesley Fettes, brought together its design, animation, 3D modelling, App and AR experts to create the campaign which included 15 AR animations and the Xaar App (Xapp). The campaign was delivered to coincide with a major international exhibition where Xaar’s educational AR was the primary focus on its stand and attracted considerable interest.

Twelve AR trigger images integrated into Xaar’s stand design told the complete Xaar technology story. Visitors could download the AR reader from the Xaar App onto their personal Apple devices, or use the iPads available on the stand, to view and interact with the various animations.

Now the printhead animations are being used at the Science Museum to tell Xaar’s technology story in a captivating, high speed and easy to understand format.

Lesley Fettes, Account Manager at Network Design, says: “Augmented Reality is the perfect medium to achieve Xaar’s aims in a new and engaging way. The result is a set of powerful and educational marketing tools that are already being used to great effect not only by Xaar, but also by its partners and customers worldwide.”

About the exhibition

Thirty-eight iconic British businesses are taking part in the ‘Make it in Great Britain’ exhibition. The impressive display featuring leading British manufacturers at the Science Museum, London, is the culmination of the ‘Make it in Great Britain’ campaign launched last year by the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills. The campaign challenges outdated opinions of modern manufacturing and dispels the myth that Britain ‘doesn’t make anything anymore’.

The ‘Make it in Great Britain’ exhibition is open until 9th September to coincide with the Olympic and Paralympic Games.  http://makeitingreatbritain.bis.gov.uk/
