The Technology Partnership plc collects inaugural Innovation Award from the IOP

On Wednesday 3 October 2012, Professor Sir Peter Knight, President of the Institute of Physics, presented The Technology Partnership plc, TTP, with an inaugural Innovation Award for developing and commercialising “Disc Pump” - a novel micropump based on the physics of non-linear acoustic resonance and, piezoelectric materials and fluid dynamics.

The IOP Innovation Awards were launched this year to recognise and celebrate companies in the UK and Ireland that have achieved significant commercial success built on physics-based innovation.

Professor Sir Peter Knight, President of IOP, said, “These innovations deserve championing. They are examples of high-value manufacturing with which Britain can lead the world; they are the fruits from years of advances in research, demonstrating how research crossing over from academia into business can lead to healthy returns.”

James McCrone and colleagues accepted the award on behalf of TTP at a presentation evening at the Intercontinental hotel.   Sam Hyde, Managing Director of The Technology Partnership plc commented, “Winning this award is a tribute to the incredibly talented staff who work at TTP, and it is a great honour to be among the first recipients of the IOP Innovation Awards.”

TTP was one of four award winners, of whom included ZBD in recognition of its epaper display technology.  ZBD’s initial application is for electronic shelf edge labels, providing retailers with a cost-effective and efficient way to manage pricing, product and promotional information at the point of purchase. ZBD is included in TTP Ventures portfolio.
