Cambridge Airport’s new membership scheme takes off

Cambridge Airport has launched a brand new initiative, the Cambridge Airport Flying Community (CAFC), which offers visiting pilots, student pilots and aviation enthusiasts discounted landing fees, to encourage more visitors to Cambridge Airport. The membership scheme, which is the first of its kind in the country, has proved so successful that over 550 pilots from Cambridge and the surrounding area have already signed up since its launch at the end of 2012.

The CAFC is free to join to all qualified or student pilots and licensed aircraft engineers, with a small annual subscription fee for other aircraft enthusiasts. Among the key benefits offered to student pilots is the opportunity to nominate their flying school for free landings each month, whilst qualified pilots benefit from landing fee discounts ranging from 25% on weekdays and 50% at the weekends.

“We are delighted to see over 550 pilots and flying students join the CAFC. Our aim, when we decided to launch the membership scheme at the end of last year, was to make flying more accessible and create a vibrant local flying community, and it’s certainly taken off.

Our aim is to continue attracting more pilots from all areas of the UK and to expand the membership base into the European mainland with a number of membership benefits, including reduced car hire rates, hotel and restaurant discounts, to entice visitors into the centre of Cambridge City,” commented Luke Hall, head of general aviation at Cambridge Airport and Chief Instructor for the Cambridge Aero Club.
