£1.7 million will help to restore sight

CBM, the overseas disability charity’s match funding appeal through Standard Chartered Bank’s 'Seeing is Believing' programme, has raised £1,700,000 – more than double its target!

Seeing is Believing has supported CBMUK, based in Cambridge for many years.  Four pounds of Seeing is Believing funds are unlocked for every £1 donated to help prevent child blindness in Nigeria and other affected areas in Africa.

A total of £340,000 was raised through CBMUK’s campaign, which ran from 1st May to 31st May. The money raised will release a matching grant from Seeing is Believing of £1,360,000 -  raising the total value to £1,700,000 - one of the most successful campaigns CBM has ever run.

Kirsty Smith, CEO of CBM, said: “It’s wonderful to see so many individuals and parishes respond with so much compassion and generosity. The money raised will be put to excellent use in providing essential eye-care to large areas ofNigeria. It will allow us to reach thousands of people with visual impairments who previously had no services available to them.

“We have valued working in partnership with Standard Chartered Bank and we are delighted to be able to use the donations raised by our loyal supporters to unlock these funds for eye health – a huge shared effort to help tackle avoidable blindness in the world's poorest communities.”
