An Introduction to Genesis 2013

Now in its 13th year, One Nucleus's hugely popular Genesis conference is constantly evolving to provide an efficient and dynamic conference for delegates, speakers and exhibitors.

This is done by creating a forum which allows you to have your opinions heard, to engage in the debate and to provide a real insight among your peers. The attending policymakers and trade agencies want to hear what you, the sector experts really want to see from them.

This year’s key theme will track and address the challenges into the future in Innovative Strategies to Bridge the R&D Gap in Life Sciences.

Introducing the Headline Speakers:

Boris Johnson, Mayor of London (Lunchtime speaker)
Mr Roel Bulthuis, Head of Merck Serono Ventures (Keynote speaker)
James Caan, Business Entrepreneur
Shaun Grady, AstraZeneca
George Freeman, MP
Professor Sir Salvador Moncada, Professor of Experimental Biology and Therapeutics (Keynote speaker)
David Phillips, SROne
Mike Ward, SCRIP Intelligence (Keynote speaker)
Dr Louise Wood, Department of Health (Keynote speaker)

The four keynote speakers will open the conference by setting the scene of the behavioural, investment and technical challenges faced in developing innovative medicines along with a roundup of the winners and losers of 2013 during Mike Ward’s ‘state of the sector’ presentation.

The leadership sessions have become a key feature of Genesis and this year will feature 12 sessions:

  • Imaging in CNS Diagnostics and Drug Development
  • Developing oncology biomarkers: Lessons from other therapeutica areas
  • Challenges in the early development of Antibody Therapeutics
  • Management of Big Data in R&D
  • UK Trade & Investment (UKTI) Showcase of the UK Offer

SCRIP Intelligence Collaboration:

After the successful collaboration with SCRIP Intelligence in 2012 we are very excited to continue the partnership at Genesis 2013 with 4 more case study deal sessions as well as the SCRIP - One Nucleus Plenary debate. Keep a look out for information on the deals which we will be selecting for case study status over the coming weeks.

UKTI International Zone:

The ‘UKTI International Zone’ will provide an excellent way to meet one-to-one with some of the most innovative and creative UK and international companies across the life science sector, as well as UKTI’s international commercial officers.

A substantial number of international companies are being recruited for the event from over 15 key country markets where there are partnering opportunities for UK-based companies. Open to all delegates, 2012 saw approximately 1000 pre-scheduled 1-2-1 meetings with delegates keen to ensure they had high quality contact with key targets.

New for this year:

The Talent Lounge is a designated area within the exhibition hall where delegates can meet informally with those engaged in skills, training, recruitment and career development. A chance for everyone to seek answers to the following and more:

  • It is an often used phrase that ‘people are our biggest asset’, but do you develop your company’s human capital effectively?
  • What skills gaps do you feel are hard to fill?
  • What training courses are available to life science research and business executives?
  • Are you using the optimal recruitment strategy to find the right people?
  • What career opportunities does the life sciences sector offer?
  • Does your science writing get the right message across?

11 December 2013:

Not forgetting our Pre-Genesis Seminar, BioNewsRound Award Final and Welcome Reception at Canada House where speakers will cover access to capital, navigating the regulatory and reimbursement pathway and engaging the public in health research to maximise the healthcare benefits and economics. Open to Genesis participants only subject to capacity at the time of booking.
