Networkers brave the Tube Strike

A band of resourceful business men and women braved the Tube strike to attend a networking event at the o2 Workshop in Tottenham Court Road earlier this week. Cambridge Network member Kate Atkin showed attendees how to present their business and network with confidence. Described as "spot on with useful content" everyone went away with specific tips to put into practice.

We all know when giving a presentation that if you are bored as the presenter, your audience will be bored too.  But how many when preparing your presentation take the time to look for ways to make it exciitng, rather than focusing on preparing the PowerPoint slides, or Prezi?  Or do you find yourself focusing on how nervious you're feeling rather than what the audience needs are?

Even at one-to-one meetings it is important to adapt to the other person's needs, while keeping your own agenda in mind.  Not always an easy balance to achieve.

The feedback from those who had braved London transport showed the event was worthwhile. Comments such as "I now know how important it is to be engaging", "why creating positive first impressions matters" and "be more authentic" indicates that it is sometimes the simple things that make the biggest difference.

Known for her inspirational style, Kate will be speaking at the Cambridge Network breakfast meeting sharing more of her tips for effective networking on 4th June.  Kate is also a world debating champion and runner up in the JCI European public speaking competitions and has trained the EMEA sales team for one global client in presentation skills, so if you are interested in polishing up your presentation skills book to attend her workshop on 6th June (via Eventbrite here).
