Independent Cambridge: a wealth of knowledge

The newly-published second edition of the colourful and informative book, Independent Cambridge celebrates the fantastic range of independent retailers we have on our doorstep. Read this week about Cambridge University Press Bookshop.

Having recently celebrated its 20th anniversary, the Cambridge University Press Bookshop is rightly situated in the very heart of historical Cambridge. From the site of number 1, Trinity Street, books have been sold since 1581, making it the oldest bookshop site in the country.

Uniquely, the shop sells books published only by Cambridge University Press; beautiful publications that cover the majority of non-fiction subjects. The ground floor presents new publications, a wonderful section containing local interest titles, shelves of the best-selling Companions series and cases full of books on the humanities and social sciences.

Venturing upstairs, a further wealth of knowledge is contained in the tomes on subjects including classics, law and mathematics, alongside business and management. Theology can also be discovered as well as Cambridge Bibles.

Three years ago saw the opening of the Learning Centre. This covers books for the younger generation with everything from children’s books to GCSE and ‘A’ level revision. There is also a dedicated section for teachers and students of English and state-of-the-art computers where it is possible to try out different learning modules.

Cambridge University Press does not stop at books; with its digital printing, e-publishing and CD-Roms, the shop is a wonderful mix of history and modern values.
