RealVNC confirms commitment to free and easy remote access products

In a key announcement, RealVNC, the original developer and provider of VNC® remote access and control software, today confirmed its commitment to the dual strategy of free and premium product licensing, and also revealed a substantial and exciting product roadmap for 2014.

RealVNC was founded in 2002 by the people who gave VNC to the world back in 1998. “There have always been free versions of VNC, and there always will be,” confirmed Dr Andy Harter, CEO of RealVNC and the person responsible for VNC. “Fifteen years ago VNC helped to create the whole remote access market, and we are still leading innovation and development of remote access products.” The core RealVNC product is available with both free and commercial licensing and offers the best in class VNC remote access software on an unrivalled mix of Windows, Mac OS X, UNIX/Linux and mobile platforms. The technology is widely adopted by the IT community and has had hundreds of millions of installs since its release.

RealVNC’s roadmap for 2014 is focused on new markets. The company has recently launched its first hosted solution, deskhop, a free-to-use desktop screen sharing Facebook application available on Windows, Mac and Linux operating systems, with mobile versions soon to be released. Users can quickly and securely share their entire computer screen with a Facebook friend, a great tool for those that want an easy to use application to provide remote IT assistance to family and friends. deskhop is going viral, simply search for it in Google or Facebook.

RealVNC plans to expand its hosted offering in 2014 by integrating the same cloud technology behind deskhop across its core VNC product line. This will make the technology even easier to adopt for those that wish to enable the option.

RealVNC’s mobile viewer apps on iOS, Android and Chrome set the gold-standard and are some of the most popular and highest rated remote access tools and all free from today. The app is called VNC Viewer and can connect to any VNC compatible server, including RealVNC’s free offerings. Simply search for RealVNC in the Apple App Store, Google Play or the Chrome web store.

“RealVNC is as committed to the freemium model for our leading remote access application as ever, with a Free license for our core VNC product available from our website, and free mobile viewers in the app stores. Additionally, our free, cloud-enabled helpdesk tool deskhop traverses firewalls and allows two Facebook users to share their screens and troubleshoot issues or collaborate remotely,” said Adam Greenwood Byrne, Vice President Hosted at RealVNC. “During 2014 we will be putting that same cloud functionality and firewall traversal into all of our Viewers and Servers, providing an optional service for businesses and consumers. It’s an exciting year with plenty of change, during which our commitment to the community at large will be undiminished.”
