RealVNC shows ‘next-generation’ MirrorLink™ in-car tech at Mobile World Congress

RealVNC, the global provider of VNC® remote access technology and premier MirrorLink™ supplier, is showcasing the latest phone-centric and car connectivity solutions at Mobile World Congress 2014 in Barcelona this week with its MirrorLink 1.1 certified technology VNC Automotive.

MirrorLink and Rear Screen Entertainment

RealVNC will be showcasing the leading MirrorLink solution delivering video frame rates with negligible latency to the front screen. The company has taken its VNC Automotive technology a leap further showing multiple simultaneous videos streaming to several rear seat entertainment screens. It enables a phone application such as navigation maps to be accessible from the front screen of the vehicle, whilst at the same time, from the same phone, streaming content such as different videos and games to multiple screens in the rear. This sets the benchmark and categorically proves that MirrorLink is more than capable of meeting the needs of the automotive industry.

The technology even allows for multiple mobile devices to connect to the vehicle at the same time and stream content so any passengers in the car will also be able to access their phone content, including videos and music. This gives automotive manufacturers the best flexibility to tailor their offering in a unique way.

With safety paramount in the industry the technology allows for the mobile device to be controlled directly from the infotainment touch screen, vehicle bezel keys, steering wheel switches or by voice command. In addition screen blanking options are available so that certain applications are not accessible on the move.

Cloud Connectivity

RealVNC will also be demonstrating its vehicle to cloud connectivity; putting smartphones and tablets as the driving force behind in-car infotainment delivering access to music and video libraries and internet radio from a vehicle head unit. The company’s software also gives drivers access to remote cloud-based services including up-to-the minute traffic information, route planning apps and roadside facilities and also enables automotive OEMs and dealer networks to access vehicle systems and provide assistance to drivers. RealVNC’s capabilities are starting to underpin many of the Telematics services expected to become commonplace within the range of emerging connected vehicles.

RealVNC is demonstrating this entire new tech at Mobile World Congress from 24th to 29th February 2014 in Hall 7, stand 7C81. Also look out for several major auto OEMs and mobile phone vendors demonstrating their forthcoming MirrorLink implementations at MWC, most of which are based on the RealVNC’s MirrorLink certified software, and are scheduled to start line-fit volume production in a few months’ time.
