Sam worked with 1plex initially on a one month work experience placement. He was placed at Cambridge Centre for Sixth-form Studies (CCSS) working with Prasanth Nair, who is the IT Support Engineer. 1plex have an IT support contract with CCSS to manage and support all of their IT needs.
He shadowed Prasanth for four weeks concentrating primarily on first line IT support. When calls came into the helpdesk, Prasanth and Sam worked on them together in order to get Sam some basic troubleshooting experience.
Sam immediately demonstrated a good aptitude for this type of work and formed an excellent relationship with Prasanth. During the work experience he proved a very worthwhile addition to the team and quickly developed the skills to work independently on helpdesk calls with minimal supervision.
Sam also showed an aptitude for audio/video which is something 1plex is becoming more involved in through Lync Room Systems and Smart interactive panels.
“The aim for Sam is to build expertise in IT support but also audio video meeting room solutions,” said Jonathon Ruston of 1plex. “During his apprenticeship we expect Sam to achieve MCT Microsoft qualifications and become accredited by Smart on their range of interactive devices.”
Says Prasanth Nair: “It didn’t take long time for Sam to get into daily IT support activities here at CCSS as he is a quick learner with excellent skills. Now he is the first point of contact for first line support and has established a friendly relationship with the staff here. His skill development really shows is his ability to resolve IT issues in a timely manner under the pressures of busy periods.”
Says Sam George: “Working with 1plex is a great opportunity for me to learn skills in a subject I enjoy. I am enjoying working with 1plex and at CCSS; everyone is friendly, which makes coming into work and learning a pleasure. I hope to develop a large area of skills and have a long term career in IT.”
