Systena Corporation integrates RealVNC’s MirrorLink automotive technology to Tizen IVI

RealVNC™, the provider of VNC® remote access software, and Systena,a Service Solution Business, today announced that they have teamed up to bring RealVNC’s MirrorLink Certified™ 1.1 technology, VNC Automotive, to Systena’s demo unit that has recently been showcased at the Smartphone and Mobile Expo in Tokyo from 29 - 30th October 2014.

Systena demonstrated the technology at the Tokyo International Exhibition Centre as part of the Smartphone and Mobile Expo. Systena has been working with RealVNC to integrate VNC Automotive into its next generation Tizen based automotive IVI (In-Vehicle Infotainment) unit.   This unit incorporates the state-of-the-art Smartphone connectivity encompassing both RealVNC’s MirrorLink™ and VNC enhanced automotive solutions providing unrivalled performance, mobile phone coverage and cloud connectivity options. The demo unit runs on Systena’s Tizen IVI based platform, and enables multiple users to access their personalised smartphone data, movies and music in the car. RealVNC’s VNC Automotive solution – over the MirrorLink protocol – will provide the smartphone to head unit connectivity.

VNC Automotive delivers video frame rates with negligible latency to the front screen whilst showing multiple simultaneous videos streaming to several rear seat entertainment screens. It enables a phone application such as navigation maps to be accessible from the front screen of the vehicle, whilst at the same time, from the same phone, streaming content such as different videos and games to multiple screens in the rear.

The technology also allows for multiple mobile devices to connect to the vehicle at the same time and stream content so any passengers in the car will also be able to access their phone content, including videos and music. This gives automotive manufacturers the best flexibility to tailor their offering in a unique way.

“We are delighted to be working with Systena to integrate VNC Automotive,” said Tom Blackie, Vice President Mobile of RealVNC. “Many of the world’s largest automotive manufacturers, Tier 1 suppliers and mobile phone vendors are choosing our advanced VNC technology to deliver commercial MirrorLink Certified production programs.”
