ARM and Microsoft back IoT power play for agri-tech

The Cambridge-born Weightless standard – designed to accelerate the networking of sensors for IoT – is set to trigger increased productivity in agriculture through novel and widescale networking of smart sensing technology, reports Business Weekly.

Cambridge technology influencers ARM and Microsoft are spearheading a Cambridge agri-tech summit where the potential for Weightless-N to help banish crop spoilage will be explored.

Cambridge visionaries are leading the development of Weightless-N, a new standard set to launch in early 2015 that will accelerate the development of a new generation of networked sensors, with applications across a range of industries including agriculture.

At a February meeting hosted by Agri-Tech East, farmers and producers will have the opportunity to discuss with the developers how the Internet of Things could be applied to their industry, with potential benefits coming from reduced spoilage and greater precision for use of inputs.
