Researchfish reveals data gathering survey highlights

Following the successful research outputs submission periods for 2014, a survey was conducted by Researchfish, with current funders using Researchfish, the research outcomes collection system, to look at compliance rates and use of the research outputs collected.

The survey revealed that funders had achieved an average 89.8% compliance rate for researchers filing their submissions during that period, across 18 funders, ranging from all seven UK Research Councils, through to charities such as Diabetes UK.

This compliance rate was achieved from 31,500 awards granted from these 18 funders, and over 868,000 outputs attributed by the researchers, with over 1 million outputs attributed across all funders during the same period.

Many of those funders commented they had already analysed the data collected and are using it to track pathways to impact, produce reports and communicate with supporters and stakeholders in the research community. Such reports are used widely by funders for presenting to a Board of Trustees and for strengthening the evidence base they have to draw upon for public accountability and Government spending reviews.

“Researchfish are very pleased with the feedback and results from this year’s survey, and it shows, in line with previous reports, that compliance rates continue to improve for funders using the system, ” reported Frances Buck, Director at Researchfish.  Frances added “in order to improve compliance further it is vital that funding organisations report back to researchers on the usefulness of the data collected and how it assists them to continue funding research”.
