Printing unchained from PC: CSR DirectOffice deployed on HP laserjet printers

CSR's DirectOffice enables high-fidelity printing of Microsoft Office documents directly from USB drives, mobile devices and the cloud.

CSR plc (LSE: CSR; NASDAQ: CSRE) today announced that its DirectOffice® direct rendering software has been selected for use in the HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M277 series and HP Color LaserJet Pro M252 series to enable printing directly from a USB drive.

“The IoT is here, on-the-go access to digital devices is expected, and more business users are working away from their desks and PCs, with an increasing number of documents stored elsewhere”, said Anthony Murray, SVP Business Group, CSR. “By putting document rendering on the printer, DirectOffice software provides Office document printing even when a PC isn’t available. With DirectOffice software, industry leader HP provides end users with always-available printing from a USB drive that ‘just works’.”

DirectOffice software for printers and multifunction peripherals (MFPs) directly converts Microsoft Office documents into high-fidelity output. In addition to printing Microsoft Word, PowerPoint and Excel documents from a USB drive, DirectOffice software enables viewing and printing from mobile devices, from the web, from enterprise servers and from cloud storage services, without opening the files on a PC.

DirectOffice software includes a highly accurate layout engine and an innovative, patented font solution that combine to produce output that closely matches the output from Microsoft Office. Version 3 of the DirectOffice software is available to OEMs for evaluation and license today.
