Innova Systems announce SolidWorks Sustainability

13-04-2010

We all make our own efforts in recycling and generally helping to preserve the planet, but the real green action occurs in the product design stage.

As consumers, we all play a part at the back end of a products lifecycle. We will take our old television or washing machine the local skip and ensure it is recycled.

But what about the front end of a products lifecycle, the design phase? What about the designer who now has to make far-reaching decisions about sustainability.

  • Which materials will we use for this product?
  • Where will they come from?
  • Can they be reused or recycled?
  • How much energy will the finished product consume?

The environmental impact of these decisions across thousands, millions, or billions of manufactured products can be monumental. So how can designers make products that they can be sure have a minimised environmental footprint?

The design software they use during the design phase can make all the difference. A new tool, called SolidWorks Sustainability software shows designers the air, water, carbon, energy and disposal impact of every decision they make on every part of a product. That way, they can come up with the most environmentally friendly version of their product, without having to go back to the drawing board dozens of times, or get lazy on the research.

For many product development companies, the job is to make products that are both economical and sustainable, SolidWorks Sustainability software is helping companies to document the whole selection process and develop even greener products in the future.

Demand for green products

Many countries are enforcing strict regulations and industry standards like IESNA and RoHS and Preference for green products is perhaps most obvious at the consumer level. More than one in three consumers opt for green products, even in a recession, and seven in 10 Americans pay continuous attention to the green steps companies take. Designing green products and documenting their advantages satisfies this market need.

“Design and engineering teams play a critical role in the fate of the planet,” said Mark Bradford, Managing Director of SolidWorks experts Innova Systems “Our goal is to help designers exercise that power in ways that helps their businesses, too. SolidWorks Sustainability software makes sustainable and economical design accessible, credible, and simple.”

Other SolidWorks benefits

SolidWorks is the standard for new product design helping companies to reduce product development times, improving quality whilst reducing product cost. SolidWorks has multiple products to design and test the suitability of designs before anything has been made.

SolidWorks Sustainability is included with every license of SolidWorks software, helps users quickly determine the environmental impact of any part.
