Marshall Group presents Long Service Awards

02-12-2010

The Annual Marshall Group of Companies Long Service Awards were recently celebrated with the award of nine 30 years of service awards, two 40 years of service awards and one award for 50 years of service. The Long Service Awards were presented by Sir Michael Marshall.

Recipients attended a special lunch at Marshall of Cambridge to celebrate their long service to the Company.

The recipient of the 50 year award was Geoff Varley of the Marshall Motor Group.  His wife, Hazel, is already a recipient of a 50 years of service award.

Geoff, who joined the Company following service in the Royal Air Force as a Fireman, said: ‘It does not seem ten minutes since I joined although there have been a lot of changes during the last fifty years’.  In retirement, Geoff still maintains his links with the Company and, until recently, was helping with induction courses and tours for new employees.  His wife Hazel formerly worked in the Accounts Department of the Marshall Motor Group.  Both are actively involved with No. 104 Squadron (City of Cambridge) Squadron Air Cadets as Civilian Committee Members.

Thirty year recipient, Mr Chris Bunney, a senior manager with Marshall Aerospace, who responded on behalf of all the recipients, said: ‘A common thread between all the recipients was a very high regard for Marshall of Cambridge, which remains a privately-owned family-run business.’  In paying tribute to the Marshall Family Mr Bunney said: ‘We are enormously grateful to all members of the Marshall Family for their strong support for the Company and its employees.’

Chairman and Chief Executive, Sir Michael Marshall, said:  ‘We are enormously proud of all our Long Service employees, who continue to support the Company so well and give outstanding service to our many customers.  Together our long service employees have provided over 23,000 years of service to the Company.’
