Marshall Slingsby receives prestigious Silver RAeS Medal as part of BAE Systems’ Mantis UA...

Marshall Slingsby Advanced Composites has earned industry recognition for their innovative contribution to a major UK aerospace programme when they received a prestigious Royal Aeronautical Society (RAeS) Silver Medal, together with BAE Systems, as part of the Mantis Unmanned Air Vehicle (UAV) Project team.

Steven Boyd, Managing Director of Marshall Slingsby, said “This outstanding achievement is the result of the BAE Systems-Marshall Slingsby team’s continued and long history of successes.  Recently the team also received the BAE Systems’ Super Bronze Chairman’s Award for Innovation when their work attracted the attention of Dick Olver, Chairman of BAE Systems plc and sponsor of the Chairman’s Awards for Innovation. Marshall Slingsby looks forward to building on this achievement, and previous ones, by working on other projects with BAE Systems in the future.”

The joint Marshall Slingsby and BAE Systems Design & Development team came together initially when they were given the challenge to build a fully-bonded carbon composite Wing and Tail set for the Mantis UAV.  This played a vital part in the production of the Mantis UAV, which is the UK’s largest fully-autonomous unmanned aircraft.

The ceremony took place on Thursday 9th December at the RAeS Headquarters in London where a silver medal was awarded to the team for an exceptional contribution to aerospace and each individual received a special certificate.
