RealVNC’s remote access software VNC® Enterprise Edition provides remote support and maintenance for navigation systems on fire trucks.
RealVNC helps take the heat off IT support at Clackamas Fire District #1
RealVNC’s remote access software has been selected to remotely manage all on-board PCs in the fire engines serving Clackamas Fire District #1, one of the largest fire protection districts in Oregon, USA. The ability to troubleshoot and maintain the vital on-board navigation software remotely, means that the IT team can fix problems instantly without the need to travel to individual fire stations - which keeps engines on the road ready for emergencies.
With 18 fire stations spread out over the 200 square miles of Clackamas Fire District #1, any fire engine PC problems would require one of three IT support engineers to make a rapid on-site visit. Using RealVNC’s VNC Enterprise Edition, the on-board PC can be accessed and controlled directly from the IT support desk, so that most problems can be fixed in minutes.
“The navigation system in our fire engines is a vital part of our rescue services, providing real time routing and 911 information to the crews,” commented Rashed Sarhadi, Information Technology Services, Clackamas Fire District. “RealVNC’s software now plays a critical role in allowing us to remotely support and maintain these applications to keep our fire engines on the road; saving time, money and potentially, lives. It’s a ‘small miracle’ package.”
Designed and built by the original inventors of VNC, VNC Enterprise Edition allows one computer to take control of another computer from anywhere in the world, with cross-platform support for the widest range of operating systems, including Windows, Macintosh and UNIX.
VNC Enterprise Edition comprises a small VNC Server application on the machine to be controlled and a VNC Viewer component on the controlling machine. With no agents or centralized servers required, VNC Enterprise Edition enables trouble-free installation and use.
RealVNC’s software solutions are used by hundreds of millions of people around the world in both desktop and mobile platforms for remote access and control. The technology is used in every sector of industry, commerce, government and education.
