Sir Michael Marshall presents annual Apprentice Awards

The Marshall AeroAcademy Training Awards were held last week, when Sir Michael Marshall presented awards to 12 students and Apprentice Adult Trainee Competition Certificates to 23 students.

One of the Apprentice Completion Certificates was to Gareth Rutt of the Shuttleworth Collection, whose training had been managed and supervised by the Marshall AeroAcademy.  Present to see Gareth receive his award was the Chairman of the Shuttleworth Trust Collection, Sir John Allison.

The award for the Final Year Top Apprentice, who received the Sir Arthur Marshall Cup, together with a cheque, was Simon Homewood, a Technician Apprentice.

Sir Michael Marshall said:  ‘I am very proud of everything which has been, and is being achieved, by our training programmes.  Our apprentice training started in 1920 and we have continued it on a continuous basis ever since.  There are few, if any, companies that can match this record’.

Sir Michael Marshall added: ‘We invest heavily in our people at Marshall and in particular training and all of this is hugely important to both us and our customers.  It is also vital for the UK Economy, which desperately needs skilled people’.

The Apprentice Awards Event is the first of three major employee award events at this time of year at Marshall of Cambridge.  On Thursday 17 November the Company held its Long Service Awards Ceremony at which seven employees will be receiving awards for 30 years of service and nine employees will be receiving awards for 40 years of service.  This brought the total awards to date to 666 for 30 years of service, 243 for 40 years of service and 31 for 50 years of service.  Most of these long service employees started as apprentices with Marshall of Cambridge.  The third of the Company’s major events will be held in January in Kings College, when the Company will recognise skills, achievement and commitment to the Group of Companies through its Annual MAVTA Awards.
