The Norwegian Defence Logistics Organization (NDLO) is undertaking final inspection checks on its third Mobile Surgical Unit at Marshall SV’s Cambridge works to confirm the unit is built to the standard and quality the NDLO demand.
Third Norwegian hospital undergoing final delivery inspection
When these are completed the unit will be handed over by Marshall Specialist Vehicles (MSV), the Cambridge based specialist vehicle and shelter designer, developer and manufacturer.
This third unit incorporates a few small changes identified during training and use of the second system which was delivered in January and February this year. Training on that system was completed very shortly after delivery enabling the changes to be quickly identified and incorporated in the third system at the early build stage. This third system, like the second, was delivered in seven months from commencement of build.
Peter Callaghan CEO of MSV commenting on the delivery to NDLO “We are delighted that we have been able to deliver this third Hospital to NDLO on time and to budget. This has been an exciting project characterised by good working relationships, understanding each other’s needs and responding to changes and challenges in an agile and effective way.”
MSV is also under contract to provide capability management of the systems over a 10 year period and this has been a central part of the £23M contract for the hospitals. Deployment, Operation and Maintenance training has been an integral part of the package for capability management.
Each of these container based hospitals consists of a central spine with specialist modules attached to it. The shelters in the central spine act as additional transportation containers and all the specialist modules reduce in size to a standard ISO 20 ft configuration for land, sea and air, by C 130, transportation.
In all, there are 26 ISO 20 ft equivalents. Triage, surgical facilities, recovery and high dependency beds are provided on the medical side. Support facilities include blood bank, laboratory, pharmacy, medical gas generation, mortuary and control facilities are opposite. The whole hospital is CBRN protected and the climate can be individually controlled in each module
Marshall Specialist Vehicles (MSV) is the Land Systems Arm of Marshall Group. Marshall Group is a large (£750M) family owned independent group of companies involved in the automotive, aerospace and land systems areas. Predominantly based in Cambridge UK, Marshall Group can trace its history back to 1909.
MSV specialises predominantly in defence vehicle and shelter design, manufacture, integration and product support. MSV has three major divisions - MSV itself (shelters and specialist vehicles) Marshall Vehicle Engineering (MVE) (vehicle load bed manufacture) and Marshall Systems Design Group (MSDG) (UOR work, EOD, EMI, EMC, Safety Cases and Consultancy).
