Arthur Rank Hospice Charity launches campaign to recruit new volunteers

The Volunteer Services Team are looking for special people to help in the Hospice, shops and in the fundraising team!

Arthur Rank Hospice Charity's Volunteer Recruitment Campaign started on Wednesday 2nd September and is running until Friday 18th September. The Hospice is aiming to recruit in the region of twenty five volunteers to bolster the 300 who already provide valuable support in and around the Hospice as it cares for those with life-limiting illness in Cambridgeshire.

The essential contribution of Arthur Rank Hospice Charity’s volunteers was illustrated by data collected in 2013: they contribute an astounding 34,875 hours per year, equating to an economic value of over half a million pounds*. As well as offering a wide array of skills, knowledge and experience to the organisation within specific roles, volunteers play an important part in creating a homely environment throughout the Hospice and its services, additionally spreading the word about its work to the wider community. The new recruitment campaign has been designed to strengthen the excellent team already in place, with the aim of recruiting for nineteen different roles. These range from assisting on the Inpatient Unit to working in one of the Charity’s shops, serving afternoon tea to providing creative activities within Day Therapy, manning Reception to driving patients between the Mill Rd site and their homes.

With the new hospice under construction, it is crucial that the Charity finds enough volunteers to help provide the support required both now and next year, when the Inpatient unit at Shelford Bottom doubles the amount of beds currently available at the Mill Road site. Clare Bates, Voluntary Services Manager said: “We are very excited to be running this campaign and have so many different roles available that there’s something to suit almost everyone. With the move from Mill Road to Shelford Bottom planned for Autumn 2016, it is a great time to join the charity and be part of the Hospice’s journey as we move into wonderful, purpose built facilities. If you are looking for a new challenge which is fun and rewarding and you have some time to spare, please get in touch.”

Those interested in volunteering can commit as much time as they like: hours required vary widely according to the role and many people chose to offer 2-3 hours every week, or every fortnight. The Charity is keen to bring on board both younger people who might be looking to add experience to their CV, as well as those in established careers, or people who may have some time to spare in their retirement: applicants should be over the age of 15 for Shop roles and over the age of 17 for Hospice and Fundraising roles. As an integral part of the team, volunteers will be fully trained and supported.
