The Your Hospice Lottery draw happens weekly, with today's top prize for 8 January having accumulated to a roll-over of £1,750. An additional 111 weekly prizes are guaranteed each week, but for players the real prize is knowing that they are helping to fund hospice care.
Your Hospice Lottery is owned and run by St Helena Hospice, also raising money for seven other hospices across the country, including Arthur Rank Hospice Charity. At the time of joining, players choose which hospice to support with their entry and St Helena Hospice also receives a small income from these additional memberships for administering the lottery.
Around 41,000 numbers are entered into the Your Hospice Lottery weekly draw, with over 7,700 of those being played locally in support of Arthur Rank Hospice Charity. Alex Howe, Head of Lottery at Your Hospice Lottery, explains: “Because there are initial set up and running costs with a fundraising lottery, the hospices are working together so more funds can be used to support patients and their families at a difficult time – all the profit stays within the hospice world. Many people who play our lottery do so as a fun way of supporting the hospice. Our lottery isn’t going to make you rich, but waiting to see if you have won a little something is a fun way to end the week!”
Dr Lynn Morgan, CEO at Arthur Rank Hospice Charity, adds: “Your Hospice Lottery has proved very successful with our supporters, our staff and many of our volunteers. It is a simple way to help fund hospice care in your local area whilst also being in with a chance to win. The Your Hospice Lottery team can regularly be seen across the county speaking to local people, sharing information about our latest projects and the types of care that we offer, they are a great extension of our team in helping to raise awareness of the hospice. The money raised has had a huge impact too and we hope our lottery continues to be well supported in future as more people sign up or play additional numbers in a hope to increase their chances of winning.”
The care and services offered by Arthur Rank Hospice Charity are provided free of charge to patients and to supplement the NHS contribution, the charity are required to raise £2 million annually to fund the additional services provided by the Hospice.
Thanks to loyal players, the lottery has already raised over £415,000 for Arthur Rank Hospice Charity since it became a partner in 2011, which makes a massive difference to people living with life-limiting illnesses across Cambridgeshire.
