Bridge the Gap opens for early bird registrations as it reaches its fifteenth year

The Arthur Rank Hospice Charity is pleased to announce that Bridge the Gap, a hugely popular annual charity walk through some of Cambridge's most scenic colleges, will return this September with plans to make the event the best yet! Early bird registration is now open.

The unique Cambridge walk gives thousands of people the opportunity to stroll through the historic grounds and peaceful gardens of the University’s Colleges on Sunday 11 September, while raising money for Arthur Rank Hospice Charity and Romsey Mill.

Starting at 9.30am in the heart of the city centre on Parkers Piece, this year’s route will take in the University Library - which is celebrating its 600th anniversary - and explores some of the most picturesque and intriguing places within the seven colleges of Downing, Pembroke, Peterhouse, Clare, Selwyn, Emmanuel and King’s.

The official countdown to this year’s event began on Monday 4 July, with a launch hosted by main sponsor The Cambridge Building Society. Chief Executive of The Cambridge Building Society, Stephen Mitcham commented: “We’re delighted to be involved with Bridge the Gap again this year. Collaboration between local businesses, charities and the University fits perfectly with our values and gives us the opportunity to be involved with an event that showcases the very best that Cambridge has to offer. Many of our members and our staff participate by walking the course or volunteering to help with other activities on the day, making it a firm fixture on Cambridge’s community calendar.”

Dr Lynn Morgan, Chief Executive of Arthur Rank Hospice Charity, added: “Bridge the Gap is a great illustration of a community event and one of the highlights of our events calendar; having been a beneficiary since its introduction 15 years ago, more than £222,000 has been raised for the Hospice alone. These funds have enabled us to help thousands of patients to live well whilst supporting their families to live on. Whether you are a regular at this walk or you are yet to experience it, we would encourage you to join us. Each year the route is different and you can’t help but be captivated by the wonder of our beautiful City and its world-renowned history. With kind volunteers on hand to support throughout and a cake tent welcoming you back to Parker’s Piece; it’s an event that should feature in everyone’s diary, not just because it’s supporting two great causes but because it’s a super morning out.”

Walkers can register now with an early bird entry price of £15 per adult (until 15 July, after which prices increase to £18) at arhc.org.uk/bridgethegap or by picking up a registration form from any branch of The Cambridge Building Society.
