‘An Afternoon of Art’ will showcase a series of monthly photographs by Helena g Anderson, give a first glimpse of Lucy Churchill’s sculpture ‘Figure of a Woman’ and enable hundreds of heart-themed pieces of art (like those pictured above), created by members of Cambridge Open Studios, to be viewed and auctioned in aid of the Hospice’s ‘Love your NEW hospice’ appeal.
The event will provide an exciting finale to two weeks of Open Days, taking place between 24 October and 6 November: in the region of 2000 individuals have now registered to visit the new facility, with 34 tours currently scheduled to take place. The Charity is delighted that so many members of the community, including VIPs, healthcare professionals, supporters, family and friends are taking the opportunity to visit and learn more about the Hospice’s full range of supportive and specialist palliative services first hand: care which will be unequivocally enhanced by the facilities now available at its state-of-the-art facility.
Some £8.5 million has been raised to date for the new Hospice project, thanks to the generosity of many local individuals, societies, groups, trusts and foundations. However, the Charity continues to work hard to raise the remaining £2 million required for the £10.5 million project. It is hoped that the auction of 130 pieces of heart art by Cambridge Open Studios artists at ‘An Afternoon of Art’ will raise a substantial amount due to their unique connection to the new hospice. Visitors will also have the opportunity to view Helena g Anderson’s remarkable photography exhibition of over twenty pieces in the Hospice’s Bistro - kindly printed courtesy of Mark Bishop by Cambridge Copy Studio - which provide a stunningly tangible monthly record of the building’s progress since construction began mid 2015. Finally, keeping a watchful eye over an ‘An Afternoon of Art’ will be Lucy Churchill’s evocatively warm and calming sculpture ‘Figure of a Woman’, the red sandstone for which was generously donate by Fairhaven Stone Ltd: she will be in place to watch over proceedings as the Open Days come to an end and as services transfer to the new building from 11 November.
