East Anglia’s Children’s Hospices (EACH) hosted a Santa run for employees of Granta Park last week and of Cambridge Science Park yesterday (Weds).

The former, an annual event for the charity since 2014, featured an added twist this year, with Rudolph joining the 2.5km (1.6-mile) race and 242 Santas tasked with retrieving candy canes he had taken from Santa’s workshop.

There were also carols, a special Santa bake off and a Christmas present collection, with proceedings bringing in £5,371.82.

It was the inaugural staging of the science park run and 216 Santas completed the 5km (3.1-mile) route after a warm up led by Revolution Fitness.

They were also entertained by the Royal Society of Chemistry sports and social club choir, and EACH is confident the event has raised at least £7,000.

Karen Newton, EACH Cambridgeshire Fundraising Manager, said: “It’s been a real pleasure hosting these two Santa runs, with all participants seeming to have a thoroughly enjoyable time.

“We are delighted with the funds raised, which will go towards the work we do providing care for children and young people with life-threatening conditions and support for their families.”
