Throw yourself from a plane, cycle down The Mall or ride past D-Day beaches in aid of EACH

Have you resolved to support a charity in 2017? Then why not test yourself – or for the thrill seekers, enjoy yourself – by taking part in one of East Anglia’s Children’s Hospices (EACH) challenge events?

The charity has five skydives this year and places up for grabs in the Prudential RideLondon-Surrey 100 and its bespoke Normandy Cycle Ride.

Skydivers will get to experience hurtling through the air at speeds in excess of 120mph (193kph) – securely harnessed to an experienced tandem jumper - as they fall from some 13,000ft (3,962m).

EACH skydiving sessions are to take place at Beccles Airfield, in Suffolk, on 26 April, 7 May, 17 September and 20 September, while another is to take place at Chatteris Airfield, in Cambridgeshire, on 17 June.

Those who would prefer to stay nearer the ground may be interested in a unique 100-mile cycling sportive that takes place on a similar route to the London 2012 road races, allowing participants to relive the Olympic experience.

The Prudential RideLondon-Surrey 100, on 6 August, starts in the iconic Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park and continues out into the stunning Surrey countryside before returning through London for a spectacular finish on The Mall.

EACH has four spots to offer cyclists, but would be more than pleased to grow its team by adding participants lucky enough to have secured a ballot place.

Those who would like more of an endurance test may prefer to take part in EACH’s Normandy Cycle Ride, organised on behalf of the good cause by Sport Ecosse.

The 200-mile event begins on Wednesday, 20 September, with a morning ferry from Portsmouth to Cherbourg. Cycling then begins, taking in Utah and Omagh beaches from the D-Day landings over the following three days - as well as roads used for the Grand Depart of last year’s Tour De France - before a ferry back across the English Channel on Sunday, 24 September.

Karen Newton, EACH Fundraising Manager, said: “We’re delighted to be offering spots in a range of challenge events this year. The cycling fundraisers will give riders a chance to really push themselves in the saddle while the skydives will give jumpers a thrill unlike any other. These events are very popular so please do get in touch to find out more details and book your place!

“EACH cares for children and young people with life-threatening conditions across East Anglia and supports their families. Money raised by challenge event participants will go towards providing our vital services to families at a time when they need it most.”
