Beginning his independent journey as a time-served bench joiner, owner James Linford’s latest venture, Cubed, aims to provide stylish furniture for Cambridge homes.

Designed with a sense of fun as well as practical appeal, the pieces are based upon the simple geometry of a cube. The building blocks of the range are the Mono, Duo and Trio, but it’s easy enough to combine these with free-standing units to create your own perfect solution.

Handmade from solid beech and built to last a lifetime, these are incredibly strong cabinets. Their strength comes from both the cuboid structure and the material itself. Hundreds of ‘staves’ are glued together to produce the solid sheets from which the finished sizes are cut – this gives each piece of furniture a unique visual character. They really are a great alternative to those tired, old, flimsy flatpack offerings.

Plus, for design-conscious people who value creativity, there’s a choice of options available when it comes to finish. Ranging from a naturally-oiled surface which will age beautifully over time, to a range of contemporary woodstains, there is something to complement every interior.

Choice extends to supports too – from highly popular mid-century style hairpins to classic lathe-turned legs in matching beech. They can also of course be used as free-standing units without supports or placed on a kitchen-style plinth which James is happy to supply cut to size.

Ideas for the future include doors and drawers customised to suit your needs: imagine combining painted doors with a natural cabinet or graphic panels based on your design scheme. Just give him a call and chat through your ideas.
