High hopes that hospice will raise £20,000 thanks to fabulously foamy 5k

More than 1,250 people ran, walked, dived, skipped or wheeled through jets of green, pink, yellow, blue and white foam on Sunday (16 July) at Arthur Rank Hospice’s Bubble Rush 5K sponsored by Santander, in Huntingdon's Riverside Park.

The family-friendly fun run saw a 92% increase in ‘Bubblers’ taking part, compared to last year – which had been the area’s first ever - thanks to the enthusiastic support of the local community, which made for an electric atmosphere on the day.

Bubble Rush 5K is fast becoming a summer favourite with families in the area: "Such a fun day at #bubblerush5K !! All money donated has gone to Arthur Rank Hospice in memory of our grandad" said one 'Bubbler' on Twitter after taking part with her son, with another commenting: "Amazing day. Well organised – great supporters and volunteers. Had so much fun! See you 2018!”

Tasha Hills, Events Officer adds: “There was a real buzz around Sunday’s Bubble Rush 5K, even when the weather contributed some further droplets - in the form of rain - on our fourth and final wave!  Every ‘Bubbler’ taking part embraced the foam as they ran through the five different coloured cascades of foam from the canons in Riverside Park. Some of the teams taking part included: The Booterscooters, The Bubblebabz, Curly Hair Don’t Care, The Blister Sisters, The Mum Squad, Rainbow Rockets, The Very Hungry Caterpillar, Bubble Guppies, Double Bubble Trouble and the Bubble Rushin’ Blakes!  ‘Bubblers’ from previous and upcoming waves cheered others on and the sense of camaraderie extended across our social media platforms too, with participants sharing photos, feedback, tips and advice via Facebook, Twitter and Instagram before, during and after the event. We love it when our supporters come together like this, to make fabulous days like Sunday happen!”

The Charity is encouraging those who took part to become ‘Smart Bubblers’ by raising £100 per adult who took part, in their quest to raise £20,000 from the event as a whole. If the £100 sponsorship target is reached before the deadline of Wednesday 16 August 2017, that participant’s registration fee will be refunded: ‘Bubblers’ wishing to register for this scheme should email Abi from the Charity’s event team on abi.christine-segust@arhc.org.uk or call 01223 675891 for further information.

Donna Talbot, Director of Fundraising and Communications, concludes: "This is one of our many events which would be impossible without the incredible support we receive from the local community. As well as the 1,250 Bubblers who took part on Sunday, we are extremely grateful to our sponsors Santander (who also entered a team of ten - ‘Santander Amigoes’!) and One Leisure who sponsored the runner numbers and provided blood pumping warm-ups before each of the four waves.

"Volunteers from Huntingdon Ladies Circle, the Army Cadet Force and Team Arthur's own staff and volunteer team, marshalled and provided event support, and we’re indebted to PPP First Aid, RRT and Cambridge Vending for the water, our volunteer photographers and all those in the Charity Village – including KC Hogroast, JD Bouncy Castles, The Little Food Hut, Tubby’s Catering, Frank’s Icecream, Gill Ashby from Aloe Vera Forever, Cambridge Roar and the Quy Mill Hotel & Spa – for enhancing what was a memorable day for everyone involved. So many people have already told us they can't wait for next year and we hope the funds raised for the Hospice by Bubble Rush 5, reflect the enthusiasm and success of the day!”

Arthur Rank Hospice's services are provided free of charge to people living with a life-limiting illness and their loved ones, at the Arthur Rank Hospice in Cambridge, the Alan Hudson Day Treatment Centre in Wisbech, and across the county in people’s own homes through the Arthur Rank Community Team. Between 4 July 2016 and 1 January 2017, 49 people from the towns of Huntingdon and St Neots received the Hospice’s care via the Inpatient Unit, day therapy, patient and family support services, with 43 episodes of care delivered by the Hospice at Home team.
