WeWork extends inspiring event series to Cambridge

WeWork hosts a one-off, free to attend event next week to inspire creativity and entrepreneurship in Cambridge, in celebration of ‘The Creator Awards’.

Next Tuesday (15th August 2017), Global network of work spaces, WeWork, is hosting an evening (5.30 – 8pm) of engaging conversation and thought-provoking panel discussion, bringing together the best creatives in the area to toast to the business and innovation hub that is Cambridge.

Taking place at NOVI, Regent Street,the event - We, The Creators: Cambridge – is completely free to attend and will offer local entrepreneurs, creatives and the business community the opportunity to speak to like-minded individuals about their passions, experience and motivations, over cocktails, snacks and music. The evening will centre around an exciting panel discussion, which will feature local business-people Gerla De Boer, Founder of the Cambridge Food Tour, Emerson Patton, CEO at Bright Business Advice, Emma J Clark, Founder of Emma J’s Party Food and Michaela Eschbach, Co-Founder of Form the Future. The event will also be supported by the Cambridge ideaSpace.

We, the Creators: Cambridge is part of a Summer event series from WeWork in celebration of The Creator Awards - a global initiative that has been established by WeWork to recognise and reward ‘creators’ from all over the world. The awards, which are open to individuals and businesses across all industries and all stages of growth, will grant a total of $20 million to entrepreneurs, small businesses, growing companies, non-profits, artists and more -  £1.5 million of which will be given away in the UK.

These awards are available to ‘creators’ in three different categories (The Incubate Award, The Launch Award, The Scale Award) with the intention of offering an opportunity to as many different people as possible. Entrants are invited to apply via a simple online form, finalists for each category will then be invited to pitch their projects and businesses at the UK’s Regional Finals in September to be in with the chance to be awarded part of the £1.5 million.

Cambridge has been chosen as a location for this one-off event due to the cities thriving entrepreneurial and creative communities, demonstrated by the incredible creatives that will be on the panel.

The Creator Awards

The Creator Awards is a new global, year-long initiative established by WeWork to recognise and reward the creators of the world - across all industries and all stages of growth. The awards will grant over $20 million to entrepreneurs, small businesses, growing companies, non-profits, artists and more. The awards are available to creators in three categories with the intention of offering an opportunity to as many different types of creators as possible. The categories are: 

  • The Incubate Award: Individuals with an idea or a project that needs funding
  • The Launch Award: Businesses or nonprofits that have launched but are stilllearning
  • The Scale Award: Businesses or nonprofits with a record of success, ready for the next level

Gerla De Boer, Founder of the Cambridge Food Tour

After years of globetrotting and exploring different cuisines, Gerla decided she wanted to share her wealth of knowledge and experience. She also wanted to showcase the foodie delights in Cambridge, so set up the Cambridge Food Tour, where groups are taken around the city by local experts.

Emma J Clark, Founder of Emma J’s Party Food

Emma is an experienced private chef and caterer offering beautiful food and quality service for a wide range of parties, private and corporate events in and around Cambridge. Her style of cooking is influenced by classic French and Mediterranean cuisine with an emphasis on freshness, elegance and flavour.

Emerson Patton, CEO at Bright Business Advice

With 20 years’ experience of the Corporate Sector and then the SME business market, first as part of the world’s largest coaching team and then as a Director of Bright Business Advice. Emerson learnt to understand the challenges businesses and their owners face within their markets and to-date, have successfully advised over 200 clients across a diverse range of industries from Construction to Automotive, and Childcare to Technology to name but a few. Emerson is also award winning with "Best Client Results 2011, 2013, 2014" and his advice is also award winning with clients taking such accolades as "Bedford Town Centre Business 2016", Best New Business at Cambridgeshire SME Awards 2017 and Bedfordshire Overall Business of the year 2017 to name a few.

Michaela Eschbach, Co-Founder of Form the Future

In 2014 Michaela discovered a passion for helping young people to find their way from school into the world of work. Building on her entrepreneurial experience, she co-founded Form the Future, a social enterprise operating across Cambridge, South Cambridgeshire and East Cambridgeshire, which links schools with local businesses to get young people ready for work. The company has grown from the two founders to over 10 people and doubled turnover in each year of operation so far.

ideaSpace

ideaSpace is a community of Cambridge founders working with their teams to discover and develop new business models. A part of the University of Cambridge, ideaSpace membership is open to everyone. Currently home to over 150 members from over 90 ventures across its three hubs in the city, where the entrepreneurial and academic communities meet.
