After collecting nine million data points per month since March 2016, Cambridge Ahead has data that identifies areas of good and poor mobile coverage by both operator and by network in a 25-mile radius of Cambridge. The business and academic member organisation is putting on the #CambsNotspotterHack to give ‘hackers’ and ‘innovators’ access to the full data sets with the aim of finding solutions to Cambridge’s mobile connectivity issues.

As part of the #CambsNotspotterHack four locations have been chosen as focus points. These are Cambridge city centre, Fulbourn, the South-East Cambridgeshire cluster and part of the railway between Cambridge and King’s Cross London. The range of areas reflect different mobile data users which means that hackers should be able to present ideas for personal and business use, as well as urban and rural areas.

The event will be taking place on Saturday 16th September at The Bradfield Centre on the Cambridge Science Park. The one-day hackathon is for anyone interested in improving mobile connectivity, whether you like ideating or coding, you can make an impactful difference. Hackers will work in teams to come up with solutions to Cambridge’s mobile connectivity issues, using the data collected in the #CambsNotspotter initiative, and present their work to a panel of independent expert judges. Winners will receive a prize and there will be a prize draw for everyone attending.
