Cambridge Academy for Science & Technology: one of four to win careers award

Cambridge Academy for Science and Technology is one of only four educational establishment in the county to win careers award.

Cambridge Academy for Science and Technology is proud to announce it has just become one of only four schools in the county to have won an award for the quality of its careers advice.

We have just been awarded the Cambridgeshire CEIAG Quality Award ‘Investing in Quality’ - which recognises high standards in careers education, information, advice and guidance and is national recognition from the awarding body, Quality in Careers Standard.

Headteacher Sian Foreman, said: “We are absolutely delighted to be one of just a handful of schools in the county to have been given this award.

“Staff work incredibly hard to maintain the quality of support provided to students and the award comes on the back of our last Ofsted report which described our work with students, preparing them for the world of work, as ‘exceptional’.

“Careers is more than simply information on jobs. It is part of a whole raft of processes that prepare young people to be work ready - everything from preparing CVs to mock interviews and working with employers for extended periods of time.”

Assistant Headteacher Alistair Easterfield, who runs the Academy’s Challenge Projects working with partner employers as well as careers guidance and employer engagement, said: “It is a prestigious award for the Academy to be given and validates the high quality support we provide to our students.”

The award is a national award, given to Secondary and Post-16 educational establishments.

Janet Harris, CEIAG Manager for Cambridgeshire County Council, said: “Young people and adults need to be competent career managers with the skills and knowledge to design their own career paths.  The rigorous standards of the award will give confidence to parents, carers and students that they are being supported at the Cambridge Academy for Science and Technology to make the right decisions as they move through their educational journey and into employment.”

We are a University Technical College that specialises in Science and Technology for pupils from YR 10 through to sixth form and offers courses in BTEC, GCSEs and A levels. As of September 2018, the Academy will also be taking students from YR 9.

Cambridge Academy for Science and Technology will be holding several open days and evenings throughout this month (October 2017) on the 7th, 18th, and 30th. To find out more please go to: www.cam-ast.org.uk or call the Academy on (01223) 724300.
