DHL occupies 'tea shed' in Lewisham

DHL Express, the leading global logistics company has secured a pre-let at Howard Group’s 57,000 sq.ft state of the art “Tea Shed” development on the Elizabeth Industrial Estate in the London Borough of Lewisham.

Relocating from its Nine Elms operations, the new 10m high, and column free facility will be constructed on the former site of the Mazawattee Tea Company. The facility will incorporate the most up to date technology and mechanical handling processes with full direct load and automated sort technology.

Colin Brown, Development Manager at Howard Group said, “The Tea Shed is one of the most exciting projects in our 80-year history, securing a global brand such as DHL for what will be one of the highest quality industrial estates in central London. In total the estate is likely to create around 200 jobs in the area, which is also set to benefit from a number of other large-scale regeneration projects in the coming years.”

Ray Tullet, Infrastructure Manager, of DHL commented, “This enhanced facility will help us to facilitate export success in the UK and support the ongoing growth of our customers. In a strategic London location and surrounded by good infrastructure we’re introducing the most up to date technology meaning we can continue to deliver world class service for our customers.”

Howard Group will also be constructing a five-unit speculative trade counter estate, known as the Surrey Canal Trade Park, which will open for business in autumn 2015. The estate will benefit from direct frontage onto a main London thoroughfare and is just 75 yards from the new “Surrey Canal Road” East London Line station.
