Magna employees join global 6K for Water

Six kilometres for water. That’s the average distance people in the developing world have to walk to get water for their families and homes. Even worse – the trek is often dangerous and the water usually unsanitary.

On Saturday, May 19, 2018, more than 2,100 Magna employees from 13 different countries will take action to change this reality when they participate in World Vision’s 6K for Water. The one-day, worldwide event will unite thousands of people who run and walk to help bring clean water to those in need. With the company’s matching programme, Magna employees raised more than $250,000 USD in 2017 and have their sights set on an even larger contribution this year.

“Congratulations to Magna employees around the world for stepping up to make a difference for this extraordinary cause,” said Don Walker, Magna’s CEO. “Two things that make this program unique: first, it started at Magna as a grassroots effort by employees, who brought this to our attention through the corporate matching program; and second, we’re helping build sustainable water systems and not simply giving away water. This is a great opportunity to make a long-lasting impact in communities across the developing world.”

While registration to walk or run in the event is now closed, there is still an opportunity to donate. Every $50 provides clean water for one person. Funds are used to dig new water wells, build handwashing stations, improve water infrastructure and pipelines, train community members to maintain these projects, and more..
