BlueStack™ brings disruptive innovation to Bluetooth audio

BlueStack™ launches today, a dual-mode Bluetooth software stack with a unique commercial model. Cambridge Consultants provides the IP for a one-time fee, creating a customizable platform for connected audio products.

Bluetooth World, Santa Clara, CA... Breakthrough innovation specialist Cambridge Consultants today launches BlueStack™, a dual-mode Bluetooth software stack that enables semiconductor companies and product manufacturers to implement both Bluetooth Classic and Bluetooth Low Energy (LE) deployments on embedded devices.

In a unique commercial offer, Cambridge Consultants is providing the dual-mode intellectual property (IP) for a one-time fee, including porting and customization. This creates a bespoke platform, enabling client companies to differentiate their connected products and to secure a competitive advantage. BlueStack removes the need for product manufacturers to work with third party suppliers that license standardized systems across the industry.

Using this model, a one-time fee, BlueStack is set to accelerate the emergence of disruptive technology by helping clients to innovate in growing Bluetooth markets, such as audio and Internet of Things (IoT). With dual-mode interoperability between devices and accessories emerging as a critical requirement for audio over the next decade, BlueStack provides established product companies and start-ups with the opportunity to secure a leadership position.

“The Bluetooth audio market is experiencing high levels of innovation and growth, with audio device shipments expected to rise from 880 million to 1.2 billion over the next five years[1]. Having the ability and flexibility to develop new products and services that offer true differentiation will be essential to long-term leadership,”said Jez Stark, Head of Semiconductor Services, Cambridge Consultants. “We’ve developed BlueStack to give our clients unprecedented levels of customization and control, not only for their roadmap, but also the commercial model they offer their customers. BlueStack will catalyze the next generation of Bluetooth audio products, ranging from in-car systems, to wireless speakers and headsets.”

BlueStack has been designed to streamline integration and provide a single code base that can be used across a suite of products. Furthermore, it provides the ability to introduce bespoke features and specifications, whilst offering a flexible architecture for Classic only, Low Energy only or dual-mode deployments.

“The product attach rate of the future Bluetooth Low Energy (LE) audio specification will be a gradual process, highlighting the essential role of dual-mode stacks in providing the foundation of cutting-edge innovation and interoperability,” said Stark.

Future Bluetooth devices and accessories will often be high-value capital purchases and embedded into larger systems, consider for example $1,000 smartphones and automotive use cases, meaning that their life-span will cover many years. Providing interoperability with legacy technologies will be an essential requirement in creating the disruptive technologies that will set the direction for the Bluetooth market in the years to come.
