A total of 67 students from the internationally renowned Children’s Book Illustration Masters course have contributed to the exhibition, which was on display in London from 12-16 February and now moves on to Cambridge.
Students from the course have been commended in a range of prestigious awards this year. Success was also found in competitions, with students winning the SCBWI British Isles' Beginning-Middle-End competition (Adam Beer), and the Picture This! Competition (Al Rodin and Bethan Welby).
One of the exhibiting students, Al Rodin, has been chosen by Walker Books to receive this year’s Sebastian Walker Award for illustration. Al has also had his work accepted into the 2019 Bologna Illustrators Competition.
Deidre McDermott, Walker Picture Book Publisher and Creative Director, attended the exhibition in London and noted that we had lost two great illustrators in recent months, John Burningham and Tomi Ungerer, and that Al’s work embodies the spirit of Burningham, pushing the boundaries in his approach to illustration.
Shelley Ann Jackson, Course Leader of the MA in Children’s Book Illustration, said: “I am immensely proud to have lead such an innovative and dedicated group of graduates, and we will no doubt be hearing about many more successes in the near future.”
The MA in Children’s Book Illustration Graduation Exhibition can be viewed free of charge at the Ruskin Gallery from tomorrow 21 February until 2 March. The gallery can be found on Anglia Ruskin’s Cambridge Campus, and is open Monday-Saturday, 10am-4.30pm.
