Over 230 industry professionals attended the ttgluxury Travel Awards, which launched for the first time last year and a total of 13 awards were announced on stage. Alongside University Arms, the likes of The Middle House, Shanghai, Mandarin Oriental, Canouan, Capelle Ubud, Bali and The Murray, Hong Kong were shortlisted for the ‘Best New Luxury Hotel of the Year’.

University Arms was selected as the category winner by a panel of 15 luxury and travel editors and writers, who between them contribute to some the world’s most respected and well-known titles.

The ttgluxury Travel Awards are widely regarded as being the toughest in the business to win and Editor of ttgluxury April Hutchinson said: "A huge congratulations to all those companies who made it onto the short list – and even bigger praise to our winners on the day! The ttgluxury Travel Awards are the only ones in the UK dedicated to celebrating the best in our sector, and I’m so thrilled with how everything went at the event, which was also a brilliant opportunity to catch up with friends old and new in our fabulous industry."

Ian James, General Manager at University Arms, Cambridge comments: “We are absolutely delighted to have won this esteemed award, especially as we were up against so many fantastic hotels. I am extremely proud of the entire team at University Arms and thank them for their great work and support since the opening. We continue to strive to improve our offering and make each guest experience special. I am sure that winning ‘Best New Luxury Hotel of the Year’ at the 2019 ttgluxury Travel Awards will do great things for our business and help put Cambridge on the map as a destination for international travellers.”

About University Arms, Cambridge

University Arms, Cambridge opened in August 2018 and is a landmark hotel located in the historic heart of Cambridge, overlooking Parker's Piece. First opened in 1834, it reopened after a two year, £80m transformation. The hotel is home to 192 beautiful and ‘playfully’ designed rooms and suites. Each suite is complete with private library curated by Heywood Hill, helping to retain a classically Cambridge feel and many on the top floor have access to private balconies overlooking Parker’s Piece, with bathrooms located inside the original domed turrets. The hotel is also home to a destination restaurant, bar, library, event space, underground valet car park and gym. The hotel is quintessentially English and the literary and academic spirit of Cambridge will be one of its defining characteristics. The refurbishment was headed up by legendary classical architect, John Simpson and interior designer of the moment, Martin Brudnizki. John oversaw the replacement of the building’s 1960s and ‘70s extensions, restoring the hotel’s façade to its former glory in-keeping with Cambridge’s better-known architectural heritage, while Martin Brudnizki created an environment reminiscent of school days past. The hotel’s destination restaurant, Parker’s Tavern is headed up by Chef Tristan Welch and inspired by the communal dining halls synonymous with Cambridge Colleges. It is an English tavern serving locally sourced, seasonal food, with every dish designed to be a whimsical re-imagining of a British classic, sourced from field, fen and England’s seas. Alongside the restaurant, Parker’s Tavern is also home to a bar which leads into the hotel’s beautiful library, curated by Heywood Hill, which serves a ‘Historical Cambridge Afternoon Tea’.

Rates at University Arms start from £205 per room per night. Suites start from £505.
